Oh ya, we’re married…

photo-19As parents, we all know that having kids is fun, exciting, amazing, and all that jazz. Right? But sometimes it’s REALLY nice to get into the car by yourself or just the two of you, without having to haul everything under the kitchen sink, oh and the kids too. How fun is it to turn up whatever music you want as loud as you can? It’s the little things…

Well, I’m writing about this because I feel it’s important and that every couple should strive to do it if possible. So, Tyler and I hadn’t had a night away from the kids since Nolan was born except for one night when we went to San Francisco for his birthday, and that was just a disaster. The report back from the in-laws wasn’t good. Nolan cried, all night, all day… drove my mother in law up the walls. I knew it would be that way. Since the moment he was born, he’s been a cryer and I had anxiety the entire time I was gone because we never want to leave a difficult child with someone. That’s just mean.

Tyler and I felt a distance between us recently. Well duh, with the new business and the kids… it’s busy! Our time together is at night between 7-10pm and we’re both exhausted. We don’t want to talk about anything because who wants to talk about work or how difficult the kids were that day? So, on Father’s Day I insisted that we get out and do something. Even if it was for an hour. It was a good day with the kids so I felt confident that I could go do something with my husband without stressing whether or not Nolan was behaving. I arranged something with my mom to come watch the kids, and we did something we hadn’t done together in almost two years. WE WENT TO THE MOVIES!!!

It was like we were two teenagers, newly in love and ready to conquer the night. Except we only had a couple hours and we took advantage of that by sitting next to each other silently in a dark room. Sounds silly, and really not in anyway us bonding, but it really did much more than you think. Tyler loves movies. You should see our DVD/Blu-ray collection. It’s out of control. He get’s excited when someone asks to recommend a movie. Before Nolan, I wasn’t able to make it through a movie without falling asleep. This wasn’t the case then. I was wide eyed, we had our popcorn and sugary soda pop ready and we even arrived a half hour early. I don’t think we stopped laughing, and talking to each other that entire half hour as we we’re waiting for the movie to start.

On our way home, I felt such a feeling between one another that we haven’t had in a long time. We held hands, we felt comfortable, we we’re content. I woke up that next morning and rolled over to hug him. His warm body never felt so relieving and put a gigantic smile on my face. Our morning went as normal, and before I knew it he was off to work. I couldn’t help but to feel a flutter in my belly from everything. It’s so amazing how a couple hours away with the one you love makes stress, anxiety and all the worries of every day go away. We rekindled for that moment, and it was awesome.

Take some time with your husband if it’s possible. It makes all the difference in the world.

I love you Tyler!
